After a season of bold block colours, the pretty pastels sent down the runway at the Spring 2012 shows are looking especially fresh. Combine this colour palette with wave prints, bubble applique, seashell silhouettes and iridescent fabrics and this season’s most unexpected trend is underwater chic. It started with Peter Pilotto’s literal translations and ended in Paris with Karl Lagerfeld’s vision for Chanel – a divine ocean floor filled with giant sculptural sea life – complete with a singing Venus in the form of Florence Welch.
